MCA leaders back Ong to overcome challenges

By NG CHENG YEE

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA leaders at all levels have pledged their full support to party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat in overcoming the current challenges, said party vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the delegates understood the hurdles that Ong was facing and believed that what he was doing was in the interest of the party and the Barisan Nasional.

“We discussed many issues, including the Port Klang Free Zone project as well as the RM10mil claims.

“The delegates understand that the president is a cabinet minister and he has to carry out his duties as the Transport Minister to strengthen the commitment for reform,” he told reporters after attending a special briefing session by Ong at Wisma MCA here Sunday.

Liow said Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun had also cleared the air at the meeting on allegations that she had received a total of RM35,000 on two occasions from Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

“It is not true that she took the money. There were donations to some fundraising programmes which she headed,” he said.
